Qualifications for Coronal Polishing Course Enrolment

Prerequisite: In accordance with Section 1220.245 of the Rules for the Administration of the Dental Practice Act of the State of Illinois, a dental assistant must be at least 18 years of age and has 1,000 hours of clinical dental assisting experience or has graduated from a dental assisting program to perform the task of Coronal Polishing and Application of Pit and Fissure Sealants.

At completion of this course and prior to being permitted to perform these expanded functions in Illinois, the dental assistant must meet the following requirements:

Dental assistant is 18 years of age and has been working as a dental assistant for at least 1,000 hours.
The supervising dentist must personally observe the successful placement of six sealants on a patient(s) by the dental assistant.
Successful participants will receive a certificate of completion.
